Resources for Visiting Scholars

Colloquia
The OHST colloquium meets roughly biweekly on Mondays during the semester, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The current schedule is available here. It is open to the public; visiting scholars are warmly invited to attend.

Library and other resources
Visiting scholar status gives access to the UC Berkeley libraries. The electronic catalog is publicly available. Visiting scholars often make use of Berkeley's archival collections, including the Archive for History of Quantum Physics and the Bancroft Library.

Workspace
By arrangement OHST is able to provide workspace for visiting scholars in its reading room. The reading room has basic reference materials, journal subscriptions, and research equipment, including a microfilm reader.

Courses
Visiting scholars may audit (sit in on) lecture courses and seminars with permission of the instructor. Auditors do not receive academic credit. To take courses at Berkeley for credit, you must either apply as a student (applications due in late fall for admission the following August) or take classes through concurrent enrollment at UC Berkeley Extension.

Science, Technology, and Society Center
The Science, Technology, and Society Center promotes research and discussion of STS issues at Berkeley, and provides information and resources on events and opportunities in the field. OHST currently provides workspace for STSC's visiting scholars.
